Olson Statement on NASA Hearing6/2/10
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement after listening to the testimony of NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, Astronaut Neil Armstrong, Astronaut Captain Eugene Cernan and former Lockheed Martin executive Thomas Young:
“Curiously, on the day that Administrator Bolden testified before the House Science and Technology Committee that he was committed to ensuring the Constellation program continues through Fiscal Year 2010, the Constellation program Manager, Jeff Hanley was removed from his post.
“Considering this action, a series of still unanswered questions, and the powerful testimony of Armstrong, Cernan, and Young, it is no wonder that the Administration’s radically different approach to NASA’s human space flight program continues to face outright resistance on Capitol Hill. Only a full commitment to Constellation will enable us to remain the world’s leader in human space flight and prevent, as Captain Cernan said, “a slide toward mediocrity.”
